At IBC 2005 ARRI Lighting features the new ARRI Studio Ceramic 250.
Ceramic technology provides an interesting solution for professional lighting designers. ARRI fixtures designed with this technology dramatically reduce transmitted heat, provide 3200K light, offer long lamp life and draw minimum power.
After the successful ARRI X Ceramic 250, ARRI Lighting developed a Fresnel style Ceramic fixture, which has been equally received. Modeled after the ARRI 2000 tungsten Fresnel, the Studio Ceramic 250 evolved into an optimized and balanced lamphead. User benefits are similar to the ARRI X Ceramic 250 design: lamp performance equal to a 1kw halogen lamp, cooler housing temperatures, lower power consumption, higher lamp life, 'hot' restrike, integrated ballast, 3200K color temperature, and a Color Rendering Index >90.

ARRI Lighting introduces the new ARRI X Ceramic 250 at this year's IBC and CINEC. Based on the new Ceramic ST 250 HR lamp from Philips which provides 3200K Tungsten equivalent light from a discharge lamp the new ARRI X Ceramic 250 is the perfect fixture for smooth and cool background and fill lighting.
The new lamp from Philips provides almost the same light output as a 1kW Halogen lamp, but with a quarter of the power consumption. Due to the lower power consumption (250W) the fixture is much cooler than a comparable Halogen fixture and it's much easier to work with where power is limited, for example when using a small generator. In principle the fixture is based on the Daylight ARRI X 5 but the ballast for the Ceramic lamp is incorporated in the housing of the lamphead itself, so that it is a "Plug-In-The-Wall" fixture.
Apart from all the technical and economical benefits the fixture also gives a nice quality of light. Very sharp shadows can be created using the black reflector in combination with the clear glass and the light field is more even than with a filament source.
Typical for the optical design of the ARRI X is the wide spread, so that the fixtures, both Daylight and Tungsten (Ceramic) are good for situations where the application requires maximum light with a minimum of space.

The Ceramic Intensifier is constructed as a flared mirrored box.
This pattern creates additional light output as a result of multiple reflections.
Utilizing special computer simulation tools, ARRI found just the right scheme to achieve maximum light gain. Now, a fixture using a 250W Ceramic lamp is comparable to a fixture using a 2000W halogen lamp. An 87.5% power savings! Remarkably, this design matches the light output and light field characteristics of an ARRISOFT 2000.

The Intensifier is attached to the fixture by simply sliding it in the accessory slot of the ARRI X CERAMIC 250. Additionally, popular front diffusion cloth and fabric grids are attached to the Intensifier's front lip by Velcro for further light control.
